“The Way of All”
Doll-rigging animation by Joan Chung, Amy Yi
2012 English Literature Media Product

A little experiment of sorts, and a collaboration with a friend. She and I shared the asset creation, and I tackled the animation with DuDuf’s nifty little Inverse Kinematics script. (IK scripting is really such a life saver, thank you DuDuf!)

Song “Stop This Train” by John Mayer

This is what I’ve been slaving over the past few days. This little beast ate my entire March Break, but no complaints - I’m really lucky to have had the extra time. I’m not sure if I can call this a proper “animation,” because it’s very simple rigging but I guess simple animation is still animation?

Ha, well. I love how it came out - it’s still very raw at the edges, and considering that this was animated in two days, I’m happy with how it came out. And I love this song, I love John Mayer’s smooth tenor and guitar strums. “Stop This Train” might be the only song I haven’t grown sick of after working with it in video format.

So guys, I’m just basking after making my second amateur After Effects video, so bear with this little nub while she prances in joy. It’s done! It’s complete!

My one regret would be that this was supposed to take up the entire song. I had to cut out a full minute of animation to save time. Better luck next time, right?

It’s done guys, I have so much joy I can’t even.

Edit: This is based on Judy Stoffman’s essay, “The Way of All Flesh”
