Day 6 - The place a character works/goes to school/hangs out whatever

Considering that I know I’ll never finish these, have a WIP. (I lost the steam after running back and forth between assignments and personal drawings.)

This is a fair representation of what I expect the main setting to be with Redact and Eye. It’s the interior of Hank’s (old man with obtrusive hat, on the left) shop, where nothing is sold but pancakes (courtesy of Eye) and fresh water. Mostly it’s a hangout spot for Eye since there aren’t many fellows his age - if any - living in the PDMI. Redact lives with Hank in the upstairs room but he occasionally comes down to rummage through Eye’s belongings. (At one point, Redact scribbled onto Eye’s copy of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress to which Eye internally screamed and motioned to tear away the book from his hands. In Redact’s defense, it was his first time seeing a book and pencil, and the scribble was erasable. In Eye’s defense, the scribble had to be smudged off with the rubber of his shoes.)

AN: Slowly developing this story - no I have yet to give up! Foolish Hark, when will you ever learn to quit.

Day 1 - A main protagonist, their bio

Name: [REDACTED], Redact, “The bugger with the bag-head.”
Android Model C-F6, D-A3, D-B1

Redact is a shoddy throw-together of scrap metal, a pair of LED lights and outdated androids. His core comes from a defective C-F6, an old model of the modern anthropomorphic robot. (As of Redact’s assembly, the most recent model is the I-K9).

Five years prior to Redact’s assembly, the C-F6 is discarded at a local slum populated by the Physically Deformed (PD), Mentally Inept (MI), and the occasional Union of Physically Deformed and Mentally Inept Individuals Seeking Equality (UPDMIISE, pronounced “Optimise”) activist. Current time, society is dominated by individuals holding elitist ideals of beauty and intelligence. Its citizens endorse life enhancements, facial reconstruction and body-beauty products (one of which include skin colour change; skin change is originally introduced to decrease racist crimes, but quickly evolves into a popular fashion statement.)

Five years fast forward, a PD (Physically Deformed) finds the worn C-F6 while searching for a spare wrench and gathers him with other scrounges of D-A3 and D-B1 models. The PD rebuilds the android using the salvaged skeletal frame of the C-F6 and pieces of the D-A3 and D-B1. He is pleasantly surprised to see that it still functions

Redact has no head; the cranial mould of the C-F6 was crushed during its five years in the dump. Redact doesn’t need a head, but he wears a paper bag to make others feel more at ease. His eyes are cheap LED lights with cameras that feed into his core.

EDIT: He’s holding onto a crutch in the GIF because he’s learning to walk. More on this later.

Day 2 - A main protagonist’s love interest(s), their bio(s).
Day 3 - A main protagonist’s best friend(s), their bio(s).
Note: Yes, I’m merging Day 2 and Day 3 together but for good reason. I’ll make it up by posting an (old) experimental comic page tomorrow.

Name: Eli “Eye” Yean
PD (Physically Deformed)

Eli Yean, better known as “Eye,” is a Physically Deformed human with partial oculocutaneous albinism: he lacks pigmentation in the hair and skin. Normally albinism takes away the pigments in the eyes but in Eye’s case, his have remained a stale brown colour.

Eye has a form of Cyclops Syndrome, a roughly defined term given to mutations where only one eye is developed during the fetal stage. Cyclops Syndrome is often accompanied by disfiguration in the nose, mouth and the skin surrounding the eyes. At an early age (3-4 years after birth), Eye undertook plastic surgery to cover the exposed muscle of his nasal cavities and his inoperative mouth. Eye breathes partially through his ears, which were made to connect to the nasal complex, and partially through the thin skin that lies on top of his “nose.” Since Eye cannot ingest via oral cavity, he ingests nutrients and nutriments through liquidized supplements. Eye does not know that he’s received the surgery.

Eye is an orphan. The Prohibition of PDMII (Physically Deformed and/or Mentally Inept Inviduals) Act was passed two years after his birth. His parents managed to hide him away for an additional two years, during which he received the cosmetic surgery. However as inspections grew vigorous, they were forced to give Eye up to the “PDMI Region,” the same slum that Redact is later thrown away to. Eye is adopted by a local orphanage. There he stays until the age of fourteen; he leaves out of own volition and finds work in a post office. He meets Redact at the age of twenty-two. Redact is three months old physically and seven years old (and quickly increasing!) intellectually when he meets Eye.

Redact and Eye’s relationship takes root in a vanilla sort of love and friendship. It doesn’t quite approach “Venus” (Venus is one of the four types of love; it defines the sexual aspect of a relationship). It instead lies somewhere between ”Eros” (alternatively called romance, eros is the longing for an emotional connection with a partner) and “Storge” (the affection that arises from familiarity; storge is common between family members, and can thus be referred to as familial love.) The latter, storge, in fact is more prominent between the two than the former, eros. As an orphan, Eye seeks companionship in Redact, and Redact seeks a foundation on which to build his life. (Practical, the both of them.)

Fun Fact #1: Lack of mouth withstanding, Eye can speak. Not well, and not for extended periods of time, but he can project enough to communicate. To enunciate, he uses his tongue (still functional beneath the skin) and his 5-7 teeth. Since he has to speak through a layer of skin, his voice is often quiet.

Fun Fact #2: Eye likes to cook though he can’t eat. Needles to say, he’s not very good.
